WATeRS: a Portal for Information Products

WATeRS: a Portal for Information Products

This NIVR GO project was carried out together with IVM and Geodan. Water quality (WQ) parameters exhibit important spatio-temporal variability that can be well detected with remote sensing (RS) monitoring techniques. Local, regional and national water managers hardly incorporate WQ information derived from RS techniques in their monitoring practice, because the information is often not easily accessible or lacks context.

The objectives of the project were to initiate the WATeRS portal, an information service that provides products from RS of WQ projects, and to firmly establish its position within the WQ field.

The main result from a user point of view is the information service. On the long term this service will encourage WQ managers to use RS (products) for their monitoring purposes. The main result from a technical point of view is the WATeRS portal. In addition, the project produced formats and templates that facilitates incorporation of future results, and as such it can act as a clustering mechanism for WQ studies funded within GO-2. Transfer to (commercial) partners will ensure continuity of the service.

Water Insight assisted in this project by gathering of meta-information and additional on-line data.

The project was completed in 2006.
